North America’s metals & mining industry saw a drop of 15.5% in overall deal activity during Q3 2019, when compared to the four-quarter average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 147 deals worth $1.49bn were announced for the region during Q3 2019, against the last four-quarter average of 174 deals.
Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in Q3 2019 with 127, representing an 86.4% share for the region.
In second place was private equity with 13 deals, followed by venture financing deals with seven transactions, respectively capturing an 8.8% and 4.8% share of the overall deal activity for the quarter.
In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading category in North America’s metals & mining industry with $842.66m, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $620.45m and $27.56m, respectively.

The top five metals & mining deals accounted for 68.6% of the overall value during Q3 2019.
The combined value of the top five metals & mining deals stood at $1.02bn, against the overall value of $1.49bn recorded for the quarter.

1) GSO Capital Partners’ $350m private equity deal with Genesis Alkali Holdings Company
2) The $254.73m acquisition of Barkerville Gold Mines by Osisko Gold Royalties
3) Gamut Capital Management, L.P’s $245m private equity deal with American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings
4) The $103m asset transaction with C&R Tool and Engineering and Walker Die Casting by Allison Transmission Holdings
5) Nexa Resources’ acquisition of Karmin Exploration for $69.3m.
