The value marked a decrease of 19.6% over the previous month and a drop of 67.9% when compared with the last 12-month average of $6.84bn.
In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a drop of 13.5% over the last 12-month average with 96 deals against the average of 111 deals.
In value terms, Asia-Pacific led the activity with deals worth $982.94m.
Metals & mining industry deals in June 2019: Top deals
The top five metals & mining deals accounted for 63.1% of the overall value during June 2019.
The combined value of the top five metals & mining deals stood at $1.38bn, against the overall value of $2.2bn recorded for the month. The top announced metals & mining deal tracked by GlobalData in June 2019 was Pala Investments’ $373.59m private equity deal with Cobalt 27 Capital.
In second place was the $324.2m acquisition of Shanjin Jinkong Capital Management by Shandong Gold Mining and in third place was Cactus Private Equity and KG Steel’s $306m private equity deal with Dongbu Steel.
The $231m private equity deal with Silverac Stella (Cayman) by Ningbo Co-Created Lian Ying Equity Investment Fund and Allseas Group’s venture financing of DeepGreen Resources for $150m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
